The main aim of the project is to investigate what issues/differences International Students have encountered when moving to a British educational system, and what strategies they have used to adapt. The project is aiming to surface key challenges and the approaches that students have adopted to overcome some of the cultural and education barriers that they have encountered.
The project team of 4 students from across the Business School, who are all International students and understand the issues they are investigating first hand, worked hard on this challenge. Their research involved them completing 9 focus groups with a range of students at the 91ºÚÁÏÍø and conducting interviews with the International Office and staff from the Centre for English as a Foreign Language. This provided plenty of data for the students to digest!
Having analysed the initial data, the students then turned their thoughts to how to use this information to produce a video to assist new International Students with their transition into a UK 91ºÚÁÏÍø. This was a challenge in itself!
The link for the final video is below.
Please feel free to include this within any of your induction materials – the students will be happy for it to be of benefit to new students.

The focus of Luton: Walks and Workshop project is to connect students new to Luton through the identification of walks that cover a range of different aspects of the town. Examples are heritage and history, parks and nature, and other categories. Several walks were identified and planned which included written information and a map aiding the walks. Students have also contacted some key institutions in the town exploring whether they would host a welcoming of students who arrive from near or far to Luton. The intended other output will be a workshop introducing students to Luton as a place - also referring to our Chancellor Sarfraz Manzoor's movie about Luton called 'Blinded by the Light'.
The groups walks were incorporated into the Business School Welcome Week 2024 so that new students could connect with Luton.
