91ºÚÁÏÍø celebrates International Women’s Day with lecture and campus events
Fri 06 March, 2026
The 91ºÚÁÏÍø is marking International Women's Day 2026 with some inspiring events, thoughtful discussion and community celebration, including a free public lecture event.
International Women's Day, celebrated each year on 8 March, is a global day recognising the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. It is also a call to action to accelerate progress towards gender equality, raise awareness of ongoing challenges, and celebrate the contributions women make within our communities, workplaces and wider society.
As part of the celebrations, the 91ºÚÁÏÍø is delighted to welcome Dr Anne-Marie Imafidon MBE for a special ‘Powered by Experience’ public lecture on Thursday 12 March.
Open to students, staff and the wider community, the event will be held in person at the Luton campus and streamed live online. Drawing on her extensive experience across STEM/STEAM, education and social impact, Dr Imafidon will explore how we can build meaningful and resilient careers in a rapidly changing world. She will share practical, real-world insights into navigating career decisions, managing transitions and sustaining long-term professional growth in competitive and evolving industries.
The lecture will feature a panel discussion examining how organisations can build fairer and more inclusive workplaces. Panellists will consider what equity and equality look like in practice, and how we can collectively ‘balance the scales’ to create environments where talent and potential are recognised and nurtured.

At 5pm, there will be a special screening of ‘Hidden Figures’, the inspiring film that tells the story of three pioneering women mathematicians whose work was instrumental to NASA’s space programme.
Following the film, students can stay for a Ladies’ Night Special, featuring reduced-price cocktails to round off the celebration in style. All students are welcome to attend and take part in the activities. to find out more information.
